New Zealand Culture

Culture from New Zealand is very different from the one we present, except for one impressive thing, the Maoris and the Easter Island people. The Maoris present really similar dances and language compared to the Easter's, in fact, 75% of the language is actually the same (according to host family). Leaving those aside, the New Zealand culture is very respectful for everything, You can't see any graffitis on the streets, everyone, and even the lower class people have good education. In other words, it is a cleaner place. As another fact, this culture was inherited from the British Culture in many aspects such as language. One of their national anthems is the Great Britain's "God Save The Queen" (they have two different national anthems of equal status, being the other one "God Defend New Zealand"), other small cultural aspects, and even left-handed driving (as my family calls it). In terms of sports Rugby is the most played sport along with Cricket. The New Zealand Maori dance, called Haka, is a visual representation of how the Maori's prepared for fights, it is nowadays performed in several events and most recognized from, rugby matches played by their national team, the All Blacks.

What is it like to be a New Zealander?

Being a new zealander doesn't differ much from a Chilean's life, this is a broad topic but I'll center it on a student's life. I've come across some differences during this 3 weeks but mainly lived the same way as always. During the week in order to get to school I need an hour to get ready, which is basically the same. What changes is how I get to school though, in New Zealand mostly every student catches the school bus in order to get to school, school starts at 8:30. Once in school, each student has their own schedule, so they are able to have classes with higher grades by just asking. Throughout the day people move through normal classes, taught just the same way as in Chile, until they go home (time depends on the school you are in). New Zealanders like to do outdoor and indoor activities such as going to the cinema or playing Rugby. Teenagers mostly play Rugby in New Zealand, being the most popular sport followed by Cricket, a sport that's similar to baseball. Even though other sports such as football or tennis aren't very popular, they are stilled played but by less people.

Alleviating Poverty (Fairtrade)

Many people nowadays don't know about the existance of Fairtrade, which is something important to know about as a way to alleviate poverty. Fairtrade is a Non Governmental Organization that helps people with less resources and a good business oportunity.
In other words, Fairtrade looks for people with something they could generate a lot money with, but don't have the resources to do so, then they help them by exporting it. For example, they've approachen people in africa who have big farms, in order to help them get their business working along the globe. This is in my opinion a very good idea, since it isn't just giving them money, but helping them get what they deserve, and getting more people jobs, therefor opportunities. Fairtrade offers a quite variety of products so far, such as gold, most vegetables, honey, and others. In order to know if a product comes from this NGO, you can check if it has the Fairtrade logo in it, if it does, you're directly contributing to people with less resources.
Concluding, the Fairtrade NGO is a very good approach to get your business going if you want to internationalize your products, the only thing you are required is high quality, other than that, it benefits you in many ways, in my opinion FairTrade is something that should be more well-known, so that people buy more of its products to help them.

1.-  It's located in what looks like an underground garage or maybe a closed alley, it is most likely in australia due to it's message being "Asians out of Australia", it's a clear message of discrimination and racism towards the Asian race, meaning that the people who wrote that message don't want Asian people in Australia, most likely due to poor "not liking them". Target audience is most likely (inference) asians themselves, making direct confrontation on to them.

There is no clear location from this poster in the image, though it is possible to think that it is from an english speaking country or directed to them, due to it being in english. It's target audience is young people, most likely teenagers. This can be found at: "Youth against racism".

3.- He's not really different in many ways, he just has a different culture, therefor a most likely different way of living. In order for someone like him to fit in a society like ours in here is most likely adapting to the way of living there is in here. Sure, there might be some racist insults from some people, but that's just the least minority, depending on the sector.

4.- I don't really recall many discriminatory incidents going on the school, at least not something like an event, I most likely remember nicknames being put into some people (and some still have some nicknames, not necesarilly approven by them), based on their head size, hair color, arms length, along with any other physical difference, but not really a specific event concerning discrimination or racism.


5.- "Can you honestly say that I'm better than you or you are better than me, just because we have different hair color, just because our skin may be lighter or darker than each others? The value of a human being isn't based on how tall they are, how dark they are, if they're eyes are light, or if they're eyes are dark, the value of a human being can be based on their actions, how they go about through life, doing the right thing and contributing to make this world a better place. Is it possible to say that just because my skin may be lighter or darker, I will not do the right thing, or I will do the right thing? Not acceptable, we cannot base physical traits onto traits that are of integrity of the human being, there is no correlation. Yeah, I'm blonde, I have blue eyes, I'm white, I have friends who are may be dark skinned, with dark eyes, but we're the same! And we walk together, and we talk together, and we go eat together, but I see no difference among us. Maybe other people do, and maybe that has to do because this people do not have the integrity to see the one priority is what they are on the inside. Racism is a form of discrimination. Saying that somebody who has a different skin color is better, or worse than another, is the same as saying "You know what? he's better than me because he has a bigger car", or "he's better than me because he's a man, and I'm a woman", this are physical traits, this are not what make the value of a human being. 6.-Perks of being a wallflower talks about sexual orientation discrimination and sexism, it applies to sexual orientation due to one of the characters being gay and having people laugh about him due to this, and it also falls under sexism "since in the book some of the girl characters seemed to be seen as ignorant or too innocent".
