Speech

Dear Animals, I have called you here to show you the deplorable state the farm is in. Take a look around yourselves, we work harder everyday nevertheless we recieve less food each time.

It might be shocking to hear this, but napoleon has brainwashed us all with false statements and lies. He has been overworking us, manipulating the commandments, he even killed boxer and the chickens for no reason! He's not a good representative of Old Major. Old Major wanted the best for us all, he wanted us to be free from farmer Jones, Napoleon just turned it worse. We wanted freedom and believed in that pig as a good Old Major sucessor, he turned everything around for worse.

I address you all, to look for a way to get napoleon off the top, and give each one of us a role, in order to have no leader and work collectively towards progression.
Progression doesn't come from a leader, it comes from the work of us all and the effort we put into it. Tomorrow afternoon we'll enter the house to take down napoleon, we'll use the house as a storage place since then, but no one shall command others from within.
Animal farm is our home, we are equal and should keep being so. Animal Farm will be equal for us all, everyone has the right to live a happy life. Since tomorrow, my animals, you will be free like never before, you will feel in complete liberty to express yourselves, and more importantly, you will have as much food as you want.
Long live Animal Farm!

                                                                                                                                          15/01/1981
Dear Diary:
I am writing this after that mysterious call happened, it requires me to go through a devastating path but its benefits will be tremendous. I should go to bed, it's raining and I'm tired.

                                                                                                                                           17/01/1981
Dear Diary:
I feel like I didn't explain enough in my last entry, so to whoever reads this in the future, I am a very poor Hazara, I've lived in very poor conditions throughout my life, but that call, that only call offered me a stable job serving a so called "Baba". I hope everything goes well, I have to go now.

                                                                                                                                            23/01/1981
Dear Diary:
I have to escape from Lashkar Gah, I'm being forced to, no time to explain.

                                                                                                                                             25/01/1981
Dear Diary:
After a devastating walk I finally reached Kandahar. I'm staying in here until I have the resources to continue my trip to Kabul.

                                                                                                                                              30/01/1981
Dear Diary:
I've been begging for money during the past 3 days, I finally got enough for a camel to travel to Kabul. Sorry for not explaining anything in the past few days, all Hazaras were exiled from Lashkar Gah by force, our houses and belongings were destroyed and all I could take with me was this diary. I'll be heading to Gazni tomorrow morning, I hope nothing bad happens.

                                                                                                                                              03/02/1981
Dear Diary:
I'm starving, there's no food left and my camel is barely walking anymore, there are some people approaching, I'll continue tomorrow.

                                                                                                                                              04/02/1981
Dear Diary:
I am still confused, no single idea of what happened yesterday. Once those people got close to me, they offered me some food and water in exchange for my pants, since I had no choice I'm now riding my camel pantless in the middle of nowhere. I hope to reach Gazni soon.

                                                                                                                                              06/02/1981
Dear Diary:
I've finally reached Gazni, the supplies those strangers gave me have just run out, now I need somewhere to sleep, which I can't seem to find, everyone in here rejects Hazaras.

                                                                                                                                              17/02/1981
Dear Diary:
I've been sleeping in a small cabin whose people gently took care of me(for a small price). I haven't had time to write because of all the work that implied paying my stay, my camel's food and the food I'll need for the trip. I'll try to keep this updated.

                                                                                                                                              19/02/1981
Dear Diary:
Everyone is getting nervous for a rumor that's been going on in here, for some reason now everyone thinks the communists will take over Afghanistan. I hope nothing happens but it doesn't really affect me since I'll be secure in my new home in Kabul anyways.

                                                                                                                                              28/02/1981
Dear Diary:
I am extremely hyped up, I am finally traveling to Kabul tomorrow, I can't believe this is happening, which me luck.

                                                                                                                                              01/03/1981
Dear Diary: I forgot to say this yesterday, but I've been working more than usual to be able to pay my way to Kabul. My camel died, this made me really sad and I've been trying to get over it.

                                                                                                                                              03/03/1981
Dear Diary: It all came out of a sudden, once I reached Kabul, the communists appeared and took everyone out of their houses, for some reason there was someone who got on their side and told them to 'Kill all Hazaras'. This means my end pretty much, they gave me an hour to write whatever I want , but I don't really want to do anything really. I hope Baba and his family are alright and have a good life after this event, I'm going to be shot in about an hour, so yeah... At least the pain will be over, praise Allah.

Rationale

'The Kite Runner' is a book written by Khaled Hosseini, it shows a story of an Afghan kid in the early 70's and how he develops as a person after the communists took over Afghanistan.
During the novel, Amir's father (Amir being the protagonist), has a servant that due to Amir's fault decides to quit his job along with his son Hassan. My task will refer to a new servant, who lived far away from Kabul, Amir's home city, and is called in order to work for them. From this point on he writes diary entries each day to keep a record of what's going on.
My aim with my text is to show the story of a character, that never really appeared in the book, from his own point of view.
Finally, in order to achieve this I will write several diary entries, showing the progress of events and what problems he encounters, in terms of style and register I tried not to use high-level words so that it relates to the level of education Hazaras have.

Chapter 22 Comparison

Comparing the movie and the book, in terms of what chapter 22 is, would give us a very good contrast between differences and similarities, you could even say they're the same but in the book it is more descriptive, it allows for more details and what Amir thinks of everything as times goes by and events are taking place.

Main Differences:
.- Amount of description in the scenes. In the book you could tell how everything was happening perfectly, compared to the movie where you had to use past events to tell how Amir and Assef thought.

.-Some extra dialogue, involving the moment when Assef got in jail and telling the guards not to enter the room again until someone got out alive.

Main Similarities:
.-Dialogue. It was almost the same. I would say that almost all of the dialogue that was in the movie could also be read in the book, nevertheless that doesn't mean that all of the dialogue in the book was in the movie, since the book had a more descriptive timeline.
.-Events. Same as before, everything that happened was the same, with the exception of a few dialogues, but the event itself was basically represented the same as in the movie.

Concluding we could say that it is a really good adaption into a movie, since it conserves as many details as possible and is as similar as possible.

TKR chapter 12

1) Soraya writes sad stories while amir writes happy ones *not sure about this one*

2)The time when many new things startes to happen during Baba's case, giving him insecurity.

3)He'd rather not get an operation and treatment. He wanted to "be the last moment of his life with a Pashtun".

4)She had more courage to tell the truth, while he lied about Hassan and broke Ali's and Baba's friendship.

Discussion WIP

Man: I want to do this, we can afford it and its pretty secure. I want a balanced family, I wouldn't take the risk of having another girl.

Woman: Honey, I just don't like the idea, it is unnatural to do this. I wouldn't feel this child like mine. I don't want my baby to be in a test tube.

Man: There is nothing to fear about babe, with all the technology there is nowadays our kid would grow healthy and strong. Invitro fertilization is a secure process, many people have opted for this and had worked out perfectly. There is nothing to be afraid of.

Woman: I don't know, it feels wrong, we can't pretend to be god, life is not a game, I don't want my baby in the hands of technology and human progress.

Man: This is not only progress, it’s the future of human raze, in 20 years
the cloning of humans would be normal, only this way we can have our ideal
baby, think about it.

Women: There is the problem, I don’t want the ideal baby genetically
modified, if I had another kid it would be from a natural way, like it
should be.

Man: Well, then we can always make it not perfect but modify his gender.

Women: I think you are not getting my idea, I don’t want my baby to be in
a laboratory or inside a test tube.

Women: I know but it just doesn’t feels right to do this to my own kid, I
don’t like doctor and you think I would like to have my baby in a
laboratory full of them, looking at him and testing on him ¿what if he die?

Man: you are being paranoid that would never happen, that’s why we pay that
sum of money for this treatment, is 100% viable. Man: but is only while hi
is getting ready, it’s not like he is going to be different anyways.

Women: Pleas try to understand me, I would not let you do this, it is
inappropriate, unethical, unnatural and inhuman. I refuse to the IVF. Also
I think we would broke some governmental policy’s, and I don’t want to have
more troubles.

Man: O.K Honey I understand you, we will not take the IVF, if that baby we
would have him from the only correct way to do it, the way we were bring to
the earth.

100 word reflection

1.4 If you were a doctor developing the technology to clone humans, how would you answer the following questions?
a Where would you conduct your cloning of humans?
b What kinds of people would you clone?
c What is more important: cloning the first human ever, or creating a healthy cloned child?
d Would you want the world to know about your experiments, or would you want to keep them a secret?

Since we don't know what will happen when cloning a human, we should get some information about it, and how clones react, then see how it improves onwards. In terms on who I would clone then that would pretty much resemble who would want to be cloned, you can  always get test subjects for what you want.
I don't really know what's better to be honest. But I think if creating a healthy cloned child can be more secure then that can give us information on how to clone a human adult correctly. I would give out the information obtained.

TKR Test Fix

27, January 1975.
 Dear Diary:

Today was a splendid day, my son finally proved me wrong and demonstrated not only to me, but to all Kabul what he's capable of.
Finally, the day came, and the Kite tournament was about to begin, people were getting ready and there were OVER A HUNDRED KITES! It was beautiful, I was already feeling my son was one of the good ones in the Cattle. We, and by we I mean Rahim Kahn and myself, talked about our predictions and came to the conclusion that Amir was going to get easily into the top 20. The tournament started and and after a few minutes, many kites were already on the ground, I was continuosly following Amir's, impressed by the way he controlled his kite, it was as if he could feel it like another part of his body, at that moment I had a strong feeling he was going to win and the term "Kite Master" came into my mind. The moment finally came and Amir had cut the last kite, I was (and am) so proud of him! He's shown and proven how good he can be. I saw Hassan running the last kite while Amir kept staring at me, I caught this glance as an "I hope I did fine"; for some strange reason I didn't see Hassan until several hours later but I believe Amir took good care.

In the end I truly see my son different now, it is like a different feeling, a feeling of worthiness and proudness combined, something I'll never forgive.

New Zealand Culture

Culture from New Zealand is very different from the one we present, except for one impressive thing, the Maoris and the Easter Island people. The Maoris present really similar dances and language compared to the Easter's, in fact, 75% of the language is actually the same (according to host family). Leaving those aside, the New Zealand culture is very respectful for everything, You can't see any graffitis on the streets, everyone, and even the lower class people have good education. In other words, it is a cleaner place. As another fact, this culture was inherited from the British Culture in many aspects such as language. One of their national anthems is the Great Britain's "God Save The Queen" (they have two different national anthems of equal status, being the other one "God Defend New Zealand"), other small cultural aspects, and even left-handed driving (as my family calls it). In terms of sports Rugby is the most played sport along with Cricket. The New Zealand Maori dance, called Haka, is a visual representation of how the Maori's prepared for fights, it is nowadays performed in several events and most recognized from, rugby matches played by their national team, the All Blacks.

What is it like to be a New Zealander?

Being a new zealander doesn't differ much from a Chilean's life, this is a broad topic but I'll center it on a student's life. I've come across some differences during this 3 weeks but mainly lived the same way as always. During the week in order to get to school I need an hour to get ready, which is basically the same. What changes is how I get to school though, in New Zealand mostly every student catches the school bus in order to get to school, school starts at 8:30. Once in school, each student has their own schedule, so they are able to have classes with higher grades by just asking. Throughout the day people move through normal classes, taught just the same way as in Chile, until they go home (time depends on the school you are in). New Zealanders like to do outdoor and indoor activities such as going to the cinema or playing Rugby. Teenagers mostly play Rugby in New Zealand, being the most popular sport followed by Cricket, a sport that's similar to baseball. Even though other sports such as football or tennis aren't very popular, they are stilled played but by less people.

Alleviating Poverty (Fairtrade)

Many people nowadays don't know about the existance of Fairtrade, which is something important to know about as a way to alleviate poverty. Fairtrade is a Non Governmental Organization that helps people with less resources and a good business oportunity.
In other words, Fairtrade looks for people with something they could generate a lot money with, but don't have the resources to do so, then they help them by exporting it. For example, they've approachen people in africa who have big farms, in order to help them get their business working along the globe. This is in my opinion a very good idea, since it isn't just giving them money, but helping them get what they deserve, and getting more people jobs, therefor opportunities. Fairtrade offers a quite variety of products so far, such as gold, most vegetables, honey, and others. In order to know if a product comes from this NGO, you can check if it has the Fairtrade logo in it, if it does, you're directly contributing to people with less resources.
Concluding, the Fairtrade NGO is a very good approach to get your business going if you want to internationalize your products, the only thing you are required is high quality, other than that, it benefits you in many ways, in my opinion FairTrade is something that should be more well-known, so that people buy more of its products to help them.

Moodle Tasks

1.-  It's located in what looks like an underground garage or maybe a closed alley, it is most likely in australia due to it's message being "Asians out of Australia", it's a clear message of discrimination and racism towards the Asian race, meaning that the people who wrote that message don't want Asian people in Australia, most likely due to poor "not liking them". Target audience is most likely (inference) asians themselves, making direct confrontation on to them.
http://m.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/the-hills/ryde-shocked-by-racist-graffiti-targeting-muslims-and-asians/story-fngr8i1f-1226730690212

2.-

There is no clear location from this poster in the image, though it is possible to think that it is from an english speaking country or directed to them, due to it being in english. It's target audience is young people, most likely teenagers. This can be found at: "Youth against racism".

https://youthagainstracism.wordpress.com/2010/01/19/new-youth-against-racism-poster/

3.- He's not really different in many ways, he just has a different culture, therefor a most likely different way of living. In order for someone like him to fit in a society like ours in here is most likely adapting to the way of living there is in here. Sure, there might be some racist insults from some people, but that's just the least minority, depending on the sector.

http://www.businessinsider.com.au/anjem-choudary-muslim-preacher-explains-government-assistance-to-fund-jihad-holy-war-2013-2

4.- I don't really recall many discriminatory incidents going on the school, at least not something like an event, I most likely remember nicknames being put into some people (and some still have some nicknames, not necesarilly approven by them), based on their head size, hair color, arms length, along with any other physical difference, but not really a specific event concerning discrimination or racism.

5.- "Can you honestly say that I'm better than you or you are better than me, just because we have different hair color, just because our skin may be lighter or darker than each others? The value of a human being isn't based on how tall they are, how dark they are, if they're eyes are light, or if they're eyes are dark, the value of a human being can be based on their actions, how they go about through life, doing the right thing and contributing to make this world a better place. Is it possible to say that just because my skin may be lighter or darker, I will not do the right thing, or I will do the right thing? Not acceptable, we cannot base physical traits onto traits that are of integrity of the human being, there is no correlation. Yeah, I'm blonde, I have blue eyes, I'm white, I have friends who are may be dark skinned, with dark eyes, but we're the same! And we walk together, and we talk together, and we go eat together, but I see no difference among us. Maybe other people do, and maybe that has to do because this people do not have the integrity to see the one priority is what they are on the inside. Racism is a form of discrimination. Saying that somebody who has a different skin color is better, or worse than another, is the same as saying "You know what? he's better than me because he has a bigger car", or "he's better than me because he's a man, and I'm a woman", this are physical traits, this are not what make the value of a human being. So as a message to all, NO to racism, NO to sexism, and NO to discrimination" - Juanita Larrain

6.-Perks of being a wallflower talks about sexual orientation discrimination and sexism, it applies to sexual orientation due to one of the characters being gay and having people laugh about him due to this, and it also falls under sexism "since in the book some of the girl characters seemed to be seen as ignorant or too innocent".
