CHRISTIAN EILERS
In this essay I will discuss about whether we should combat Global Warming or learn to live with it. This is an important topic since global warming affects the whole world, so everyone should have his/her own opinion. I will look into arguments that are either for or against and get a conclusion based on this.
Firstly, according to Bob Carter in an Express' post, climate change isn't that big of a problem, and we should learn to live with it since carbon dioxide levels will rise anyway because of natural events, whether we want or not. He also states that no significant warming has occurred  since 1958. I'd like to counter this since even though those facts are true, Global Warming is still a fact and we should revert what we've done wrong. Also,  it doesn't really matter wether we caused carbon dioxide rises or not, it still is a fact and is damaging the environment.According to the Suzuna Ridier's research, scientists say that crops are being seriously damaged in some places, causing less production.
Secondly, people argue that there is an economic problem at combating climate change, saying that we should instead use that money on education. I can't dissaprove the fact that education is important but, why is money even involved in this? We can start by making a change at small things like picking up garbage, taking shorter showers, not using too much energy, etc. Small changes will eventually sum up into a big impact. As another fact, even though it is true that it can be really expensive, global warming is a problem now, if it wasn't, no one would be talking about it. Economical problem shouldn't be a complication. First of all, the US army takes 25% of the citizens taxes, why can't it be around 20% and use only 5% for global warming causes? As another fact, there are many volunteers around the world, those would cover big part of the issue.
However, there is another problem, which is an energy problem, fossil fuels cover up most of the world's energy sources. This is a trouble that needs to be resolved. Luckily, there are already alternatives for this such as wind, solar, water power or other renewable, green energy sources.
Finally, I would conclude that even though there are some problems into combating Global Warming, it is totally worth it. In terms of how to do this, volunteers can help the economical problems and energy sources should be changed into renewable, green ones. Global Warming is  affecting everyone, I am against sitting back and living with it.

Secondly, people argue that there is an economic problem at combating climate change, saying that we should instead maintain the current problem, without getting it worse until 2100, where people will be richer, making this economical problem not important. Even though this is true, it is really expensive, it really is necessary now, global warming is a problem now, if it wasn't no one would be talking about it. Economical problem shouldn't be a thing. It's not worth combatting global warming, we should learn to live with it.

1st argument:
Suzanna Didier(UNKNOWN). General format. Retrieved from http://homeguides.sfgate.com/global-warming-affect-daily-life-78745.html

Global Warming is affecting everyone's lives, not only as a community but also as each person's daily routine. This article is an awesome example as how this happens in my opinion since you it explains the different areas where it affects.
For example, it affects the food price since global warming may damage crops sometimes, proceeding into less production. As another example we can see that fresh water is becoming scarcer in some regions. Scientists expect lake levels to drop as the climate continues to warm up, which also may affect it's price and availability.
As a conclusion, he believes the same that I do, it is clearly a big problem and we should not let it be, it's something worth combatting, he gives reasons and examples as how it could make our lives worse.

2nd argument(counter argument):

Dr. Ira Glickstein (2014, January 12). General format. Retrieved from http://wattsupwiththat.com/2014/01/12/global-warming-is-real-but-not-a-big-deal-2/
I seem unable to understand his point of view. According to him(Anonymous), since global warming is mainly caused by natural events, global warming isn't that big of a problem.
Well, from what I can say it is our job to cover those problems. Imagine there is a forest fire. It may or may have not been caused by humanity, but that doesn't matter. Wether it is or isn't our cause it still affects our lives. Living with it by ignoring it will just end in worse. You can see how this is demonstrated by how crops price goes up because of global warming. Bad weather (caused by global warming) will result in less crops, less crops means higher prices and lower food.

Letter of protest

07 FiFi Alley

Valparaiso

H45SF4

Primer Minister David Cameron
Saint George David Cameron MP
62 Downing Street
London
JKT784

26 July 2014

Dear Mr. Cameron,

I am writing this to concern about what happened on 30 January 1972. Many peacefull protesters died that die, with no apparent reason. They weren't armed and we're shot with no apparent reason by civil officers.
I'd like to ask you to take action, since these civil officers were prosecuted and almost immediately left free.

Apparently, there were 26 civil right protesters who were shot, including teenagers. The public prosecution system stated that there needs to be more evidence(which is hard since this happened 38 years ago) but Lord Saville made a report about this, after a 12 year inquiry that was made public by 15 June 2010. This report contained information from more than 900 witnesses, 2500 written statements and 60 volumes of written evidence.

Another reason there is, is the fact that the soldiers started shooting giving no previous warning at all, they said nothing actually. They just shot. How can one not be aware that this is wrong?

It is because of these reasons that I'd like you to take legal acts and prosecute these soldiers. After all, we can't live peacefully in a world with people who abuse power by shooting on sight.

Your sincerely,

Christian Eilers

Technology Story

Sebastian always used his phone, no matter where he was neither what he had to do. One day he was in class and as always, using his phone. Sebastian never paid attention to class and had really bad grades.
One day, Sebastian was eating lunch with his family(while using his phone), and didn't listen to her mother tell him to either stop using the phone in class and get better grades or she would take away his phone, as everyone can tell, he just didn't listen.

After a couple weeks Sebastian grades weren't getting better and her mother went to talk to him and take away his phone. Sebastian had an impressed face after watching her mother taking away his phone from him and didn't quite understand the situation. His mother explained everything to him and he started crying out loud. After a couple of weeks Sebastian's grades started to get slightly better and her mother started thinking about giving him the phone back, though she wasn't so sure about it. Time passed and Sebastian became one of the best students in class, therefor his mother gave him his phone back, sadly this was her worst mistake. The story turned upside down.

Gladiator Screenplay

Commodus leaves the arena and goes inside to talk to one of his advisers. He is astonished after what happened.

Commodus: I can't believe what just happened! I have to do something about this.

Adviser: Sir, what you did was right. If you killed him they would've turned against you.

Commodus: But now they've noticed I'm no bigger than them! They'll soon turn against me anyway.

Adviser: You could kill him indirectly, pay someone to do the job.

Commodus: The information will leak after some time, but I like the idea of doing it indirectly.

Adviser: You could also make him fight 5 lions. There's no way he can get out of it alive.

Commodus: Awesome idea! I'll try that.

Commodus and Adviser leave the room.

rationale

Short and sweet… Paragraph 1: what were you trying to do (tone, purpose, audience to reach?) Paragraph 2: How did you try to do that…give examples from your piece. Paragraph 3: How did you connect to your topic? Example– I wrote a protest letter about the victims of Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland. It was written with a serious tone and hopes to address the Prime Minister. In my letter,  I tried to present my point of  view  with phrase like “As another matter fact.” and “It is for these reasons”. I tried as well to use a sophisticated level of vocabulary with word choices like “prosecution" and “hypocrite” finally I tried to use complex structures like one might see in a higher level publication such as The New York Times with sentences like “I am writing this letter to concern...” and "I am currently concerned about how the soldiers...”. Using these elements I feel I reached my purpose set out in the task. This task addresses the topic “Taking a Stand”  and specially addresses the topic of the abuse of power. I think  a letter of protest helped me to  best express what I learned from the topics we studied in this unit and how I feel about them.

Educreations. Bloody Sunday

Bloody Sunday Report

Sir David Cameron.                                                                                           Vicuña Mackenna 666
House of Parlament.                                                                                               The Mackay School
Dear Prime Minister,                                                                                                             286500

I am writing this letter to concern about the 'Bloody Sunday' case. I know that a long time has passed since then but it lax still has problems without solving in my opinion. I am actually a bit disappointed in how you shot those protesters, if you're really gonna do something about protesters then try to control them, but don't shoot them right away. Even though there were problems and you apologized about what happened the lives from the people you killed won't be back, their families should still continue sad about this. I am currently concerned about how the soldiers who killed this people could do that to unarmed people.  It is supposed that everything started as a pacific march, if that's the case . . . Why couldn't you just try to mantain the peace rather that killing those innocent people? If you were really trying to mantain peace by killing those who make disorders then you're just doing hypocrite actions, why would killing make the world a more peaceful place?

You should prosecute the soldiers who shot those people, there's enough evidence in Saville's report, they started shooting giving no warning and more importantly, they shot people, even if there's a problem with them people have right and they shouldn't be randomly shot by a soldier. Everyone has rights, they should've been warned not to do something at least, to warn them so that they can learn what they're doing is wrong. No one will learn from being shot to death.

As another matter of fact, there shouldn't be any problems from now on, so don't use guns on marches, even if people are making disorders, you should just stop the by force, not killing them. So please don't even allow the use of guns in future marchs. Keep the peace, promote peaceful marchs.

It this for this that I would like to ask you to go apologize to the murdered people's families and friends personally and individually, maybe have a little chat together and ask them how you can help them. If everything comes nice with them you should be able to revert that ill-feeling into something good, where you'll feel better after this situation and they'll feel better with you.

Allowing Students to have a big list of possible languages to learn.

Currently we can only learn English, some people might choose to go learn to other countries which are not necessarily UK or the US. In my opinion, everyone should learn English, but enough to be able to mantain in certain situations and then be able to choose "Upper English" or a language from a list.

Some people may not like this due to the lack of students in certain languages but the truth is... People come to school to learn, if they have a lot of options they'll be interested in the subject they chose.
One does not need many students to teach correctly.

It's all I have to say.

The teddy bear

This isn't a normal story, this is a story about Christopher, a sad kid.

One day , Christopher was coming out of his house to take the bus. He found a teddy bear in the ground, saying at every hug: "I love you".

Christopher took it thinking he'll be a happy kid now and had it for about 5 months. After this time he felt the teddy bear wasn't special to him anymore and decided to get rid of it by giving it to another kid. Over time Christopher started missing about his teddy bear but no one cares about Christopher.

The kid who Chris gave his teddy bear to was known as "Rolo". Rolo was angry with her English teacher because her teacher had some really low volume speakers for the listening test and the school couldn't afford some better speakers despite the fact Rolo pays about 350.000 pesos every month.
But continuing with the story, Rolo started getting annoyed at the teddy bear's: "I love you" and decided to stab him with a kitchen knife.  Strangely, there was about 10 grands inside the teddy bear and Rolo lived happily... Until he wasted all of his money.

The Catcher in The Rye Questions

1.- "How does Holden change when he visits Mr. Spencer? Do you think Holden is being fake?"
R: Holden keeps changing in what he thinks to what he actually says. In most sentences Holden says COMPLETELY the opposite of what he is thinking, mainly to look nice and don't give a bad image about himself to Mr. Spencer.

2.- What is significant about Dr. Thurmer's comment: "Life is a game that one plays according to the rules" What is Holden's opinion to this statement?
R: Holden has kind of a 2-faced opinion in this, in his opinion it can be a "game", but ONLY under special conditions. If not it is complete bullshit.

4.-Why does Holden leave Elkton hills?
R: He leaves Elkton hills because he was surrounded by Phonies(Like the headmaster). Making him uncomfortable.

5.-Holden says: "I am quite young for my age." and "I told him I was a real moron and all the stuff". What do these statements tell you about Holden?
R: You can't really know if he was serious about it. If he was though, you would know he looks/acts younger than he actually is, he looks like a moron and that he tells a lot of lies.

6.-Why do you think Holden characterizes himself as a liar at the beggining of chapter 3? What does he lie about? Why do you think he lies?
R:Because he actualy does lie a lot, and he is just assuming the truth about him. He lies about personal things envolving him and things he talks, having nothing to do with what he actually thinks.

7.-What is ironic about Holden's statement, "I'm quite illiterate but I read a lot".
R: He's mainly saying he doesn't like much about books and literature but he reads a lot(possibly story-like books).

8.-What is Holden's attitude / how does he feel about Ackley?
R: He basically doesn't bother too much with Ackley, he just wanted him to get out of his room so that he could continue reading, telling him rude words using sarcasm.

9.-How is Stradlater characterized according to Holden and Ackley?
R: He was friendly but a bit "arrogant" in some situations.

10.-Is feeling sorry for something the same as caring?
R: It could but not necessarily. For example... Holden felt sorry about Mr. Spencer,  but it didn't look like he cared about him.

11.-What do you make of all the "phoniness"? Are Holden's claims valid or is he being phony?
R: You can't really tell if his claims are valid unless you are giving an opinion about the statement. In my opinion he is being valid in some of his statements but sometimes he is just being phony.
